Eliminate Skipping, Distortion and Freezing by Cleaning Your Blu-ray Laser Lens
Skipping, freezing and distortion are not always caused by dirty or scratched discs. Often, a dirty laser lens in your disc player is the cause of playback problems. Even if a Blu-ray disc plays, a dirty lens can prevent information from being read clearly, resulting in reduced audio and video quality. So before you determine that a disc repair is in order, make sure your Blu-ray player is reading through a clean optical lens. You need a quality Blu-ray lens cleaner.
The Nuts and Bolts of Optical Disc and Laser Lens Technology
A full-sized optical disc is 120mm in diameter and 1.2mm thick. It’s made mostly of polycarbonate plastic, with a thin layer of metal at its core. The data information on a disc is stored in a spiral track of pits molded into the polycarbonate plastic layer. On a dual layer disc, the second data layer is stored beneath the first layer. The pits are then coated with a reflective metal (typically aluminum), and then a final protective layer of acrylic is applied before the label is printed.
The laser and lens system of the playing device reads the data contained in the pits by passing a laser beam through the clear polycarbonate layer, reflecting off the aluminum layer and hitting an opto-electronic device that detects changes in light. The "bumps" of the data pits reflect light differently than the "lands" (the flat areas of the aluminum layer with no data stored), and the opto-electronic sensor detects that change in reflectivity. The electronics in the drive interpret the changes in reflectivity in order to read the bits that make up the bytes of data.
The Importance of a Clean Lens
Small airborne contaminates, such as dust, hair, lint or smoke residue often get into Blu-ray players and settle onto the laser lens. These contaminants can adversely affect playback. Just as smudged or dirty eyeglasses are difficult to see through, a laser focused through a dirty lens is unable to accurately reflect light off the disc surface and read the signal correctly. This can lead to tracking errors that can cause distortion, skipping or freezing during disc playback. A Blu-ray lens cleaner can help.
Cyclone Clean™ Technology Safely Cleans All Laser Lenses
For optimal performance, laser lens cleaning is recommended after every 40 hours of use, or every three months. The question is how do you clean them? Not only are many laser lenses hard to reach, but a laser lens is quite easy to knock out of alignment and even easier to scratch. Fortunately, a safe and gentle Blu-ray lens cleaner is possible with the innovative 10-brush Cyclone Clean™ Process found in CleanDr® for Blu-ray Laser Lens Cleaner. Ten clusters of ultra-fine synthetic fibers arranged in a cyclone configuration trap and remove dust, dirt and micro-particles from the system’s laser lens to ensure crisp, clear audio, video and game playback.
Zero-Clearance™ Technology is Engineered to Safely Clean Blu-ray Discs
Zero-Clearance™ Technology is an innovative Brush + Pocket System found in CleanDr® for Blu-ray Laser Lens Cleaner. This unique system was specially designed so that each brush folds into its own pocket as it safely cleans the delicate Blu-ray lens. Zero-Clearance™ Technology is critical for use in Blu-ray players, which have an incredibly tight clearance between the lens assembly and the disc – about the thickness of a sheet of paper. Without the Brush + Pocket System, other Blu-ray lens cleaners can knock the lens out of alignment as the brushes pass over the lens. Only CleanDr® utilizes patented Zero-Clearance™ Technology.
Bonus Feature: Image and Sound Calibration Tools
CleanDr® for Blu-ray Laser Lens Cleaner includes Home Theater Image & Sound Calibration Tools to help maintain ideal audio and visual playback settings.
